【Departs from Yonago】 Limited tour dates! Departs May 22: Japanese Sword Quick-draw Technique Demonstration and Hands-on Modern Tatara Furnace Experience 3 Days

・The tour starts off with a look at local iron- and steelmaking history, exploring its background in traditional culture and how it has related to people's lifestyles. Afterward, guests view a demonstration using Japanese swords made from tamahagane steel, which are symbols of martial arts, traditional crafts and aesthetic beauty in Japan. ・During day two of the tour, guests will have the chance to view and try using a modern tatara furnace for themselves. ・On the final day, guests will make their own small blade using tamahagane, a rare type of steel. Tour guests will be able to try steelmaking using a genuine tatara furnace. ★ Tatara furnace steelmaking has undergone continual development from ancient times up to the modern day. The bellows (fuigo) used to send air into the furnace are also called tatara, which is where the ""tatara furnace"" name originates. In tatara furnace steelmaking, iron sand, iron ore and other such materials are reduced at relatively low temperatures inside a charcoal-fueled clay furnace to produce high-purity steel. Until the early part of Japan's modern history, domestic steel was almost all produced in this fashion. ★ [Baby/Child Tour Prices] Children ages 0–5 cannot participate in this tour.
