Visit four landmarks well-known as cherry blossom viewing spots in spring: Kintaikyo Bridge, Iwakuni Located in Iwakuni in Yamaguchi prefecture, Kintaikyo Bridge is a unique 5-arch bridge made of wood supported by stone pillars that spans the Nishiki River. From the end of March to the beginning of April, cherry trees lining both sides of the river are in full bloom and attract lots of tourists. Itsukushima Shrine, Miyajima Itsukushima Shrine is designated as a World Heritage site and is located on Miyajima island, a beautiful and popular tourist spot just a short ferry ride away from Hiroshima. It is famous for its wonderful vermillion buildings and the giant 'floating' torii gate. The pink cherry blossoms that are displayed in the surrounding areas of the shrine are beautiful. Ondo no Seto Park, Kure Ondo no Seto Park is located in the port town of Kure in Hiroshima. Ondo no Seto is a strait in the Seto Inland Sea that is spanned by two beautiful bridges. From the end of March to early April, around 2,300 cherry trees bloom in the park to provide wonderful contrasting views of the sea and the two bridges. Peace Memorial Park, Hiroshima city One of the major cherry blossom viewing sites in Hiroshima city where the banks of the Motoyasu River, which runs through the park, are lined with 300 cherry trees. The park gets extremely busy during cherry blossom season as people enjoy picnics underneath the trees, which are also lit up at night. *Best time to see cherry blossoms at these locations: Late March~Early April. Please note that these dates are just guidelines from previous years. Depending on this year's climate etc. the peak viewing season may be before/after the tour dates. 2. On a clear day, you are treated to stunning views of the the city (Atomic Bomb Dome, Peace Memorial Park etc.) and beyond including as far as Mt. Misen on Miyajima island. The 12th floor features the Orizuru Origami Throw-in (orizuru are origami cranes) where you can purchase a pack of origami paper and fold cranes using the various interactive displays for assistance.
