Hokkaido Travel: World Heritage Site Shiretoko & Drift Ice Walk


1. Snow Hiking Experience, Furepe Falls Enjoy the snowy landscapes of Hokkaido while hiking! Special snow hiking shoes and poles provided for free (you can enjoy the course without poles as well.) 2.Drift ice walk, Utoro Walk on top of actual ice and even breaks some off! You will wear a special dry suit over your clothes for convenience. Take advantage of a rare opportunity to experience the sunset surrounded by drift ice. 3. Drift ice cruise Look out for wildlife that have come to Shiretoko for the winter. There’s a great chance to encounter Steller’s sea eagles and white-tailed eagles (around 99% according to the Shiretoko Nature Cruise, 2018.) 4. Icebreaker ship Aurora, Abashiri Feel the vibrations as the Aurora ship crunches through the drift ice. You may be lucky enough to see various wildlife such as seals and birds. 5. Please wrap up warm as temperatures can get extremely low: the highest temperature during the day is between -5℃~3℃ and the lowest is between -20℃~-10℃ *Snow hike  - Walking distance: 2km (2.5 hours) - For safety reasons, you are not allowed to go off on your own. - There is no bathroom on the route. - The activity may be cancelled if conditions are considered too dangerous. - Please don’t forget to drink lots of water during the walk. - You will be provided with rental snow shoes and long boots - Skiwear (men, women and children sizes) is also available for rent during the tour around Fureppe Falls (JPY1,000, pay on site.) Please note that stocks are limited so we may not be able to meet your request. *Clothing - We strongly recommend you wear lots of layers. - Waterproof and warm outerwear (e.g. skiwear) - A thick fleece or sweater. - Heat-tech t-shirts, vests etc. *Equipment - A rucksack to keep both hands free. The rest of your luggage can be left on the bus.) - Hats, earmuffs, thick socks, gloves, sunglasses *Drift ice walk - The walk only occurs when drift ice reaches the land. - If the walk is cancelled due to bad weather, we will visit the Shiretoko Center. - In order to participate on the activity, please let us know your height, weight and feet size for the dry suit. It is recommended to wear a fleece/sweater while pants with shoes are not necessary. - Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty/wet. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Attention] Itinerary *The order of the itinerary is subject to change or be done in reverse. The airports used may also change. *You may not be able to see the sunset or stars if the weather is poor. *The outdoor bath at the hotel may not be open if the weather is poor. *Please be aware that some ingredients, especially seafood, may change depending on the catch and stock availability. *A Japanese-speaking sightseeing guide accompanies the trip. There is a separate tour conductor that speaks English or Chinese, however they do not translate what the sightseeing guide is saying. *Please wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. *This tour is operated with a mix of Japanese and foreign passengers.。 Drift ice viewing *Since drift ice is a naturally occurring phenomenon, there is no guarantee that you will see any (from the land or the ship.) *The drift ice cruise may not operate when there is no drift ice to see or if the weather is poor. *Please note that normal cancellation fees will still arise as normal should you decide to change/cancel your booking for the reasons above. *If there is no drift ice, the icebreaker cruise will become a sightseeing cruise around the Sea of Okhotsk (subject to weather.) Any differences in fares will be refunded to you. Should the sightseeing cruise not operate on the day, then we will either go to a different sightseeing spot or refund you the difference. Meeting point & flights *Meeting time on the tour departure day is 50 minutes before the flight departure time. Any costs for the accommodation around the airport a night before the tour day or for the transportation to the airport are covered by customers. Other *For the smooth operation of the group tour, we are responsible for allocating the seating for the transportation (bus, trains etc.) used during the tour and at facilities where seats are designated. *We will not be responsible for any delays, shortenings or omissions made to the itinerary due to circumstances beyond our control (traffic, weather etc.) *A decision on whether to cancel the tour will be decided by 3pm Japan Standard Time one day before the tour date. Language Support

A tour conductor or staff of your preferred language will accompany the tour from the designated meeting place (at a designated airport in case of a tour with airplanes) and provides the participant with basic information necessary for the tour (such as meeting place and time at each stop etc) in your preferred language. Information on sightseeing in the areas of tour destinations will not be provided. However, brochures in your preferred language will be provided.
